Mamas Got Some Good Digs....
Amy Hughes is quite a local legend around town here in the SOMA neighborhoods and her beloved shop Salvage Style is a go-to for chic "interiors with a past." A seriously-skilled treasure hunter and Momboss of two littles (Vivienne and Nicholas), Amy brings a seasoned eye (she is a longtime magazine editor, author, and design consultant) to the town, so we couldn't wait to get inside her own home. Mid-century scores were presented off-kilter amongst cozy warmth (hello, stone fireplace) and sweet and citrus color-play, and we didn't want to leave her stylish playroom. Take a look as Christy Kurtz-Harmon shows us around this quintessentially Boburbs home !
It's been a doozy of a week, right!?! Let's take a minute to dial it back and savor something small.....to the HOME, where it's up to us to inspire and cultivate within our own family walls. Castle, condo, teepee, or tract home, they're really all the same. Home is where you plant your roots! We're on a constant quest to find what makes your home uniquely YOU. This week, we revisit Sarah Perez of Electric Sun Creatives handmade wall-hangings and little Harper in their charming Sacramento loft. She creates a lovely mix of a rural-style interior within the modern work/live space...click for the tour!
Castle, condo, teepee, or tract home, they're really all the same. Home is where you plant your roots! We're on a constant quest to find what makes your home uniquely YOU. This week, we revisit Caroline and her sweet daughter in the Mount Washington neighborhood of Los Angeles. The two show us around Milo's bohemian nursery and play-space, highlighting some of the delightful products from their newly launched Shop Merci Milo . Stocked with whimsically traditional, handmade ,and global finds -this just might be the most perfect children's shop to date!
Here at PS, there's really nothing that tickles our fancy more than the charm of a creative, humble abode. This week, we meet California designer and stylist, Kaila and her new little Sloane in the Elmhurst neighborhood of Sacramento. A recent Petaluma-transplant, Kaila brings a kind of cool coastal minimalism to the house. There's a quiet loveliness in the moments of pause and simple decor, and our hearts swell with her little Waldorf nursery. Instagram and this ever-ebbing circle of community and motherhood brought us together and birthed a new friendship. Beth herself snapped photos on an afternoon visit. Click to take a look around her carefully collected, sweet home.
We're revisiting the Sacramento studio of our friend and surface designer Sarah Golden,of Maker Maker. We poke around her Oak Park space filled with endless sewing scraps, stacks of quilts, and heaps of cheerful block prints. Celisse Muller shows us around and gets to know her darling little twins, Sadie and August.
We just about fell over when our friend, jewelry + embroidery designer Emma Cassi sent us these beautiful photographs taken from inside her favorite room in the family's new home. The house, in the village of Old Windsor, was a former dance school and all the mirrors were left behind. Settled in the forest and near the Thames River, Emma and her daughter Hope have created their own dreamy space to twirl in. SWOON!!!
We're exploring the notion of identity beyond just Motherhood over here at PS. Most of us cling to old photographs of our own Mothers, romanticizing her cool youth and perfectly-now style, and what made her.. HER. We wonder what our sons and daughters will remember in us- (hopefully not the chaos), and more of a little something like the beauty and innate elegance in our dear friend, Kat (if we're lucky!) These kiddos landed a good one. She demonstrates a kind of grace in everyday dressing that we all aspire. She has one of the most articulated sense of personal style we've seen, with a virtuosity in Vintage like no other. What better place to kick it off other than Kat's Closet?! Click through East-Coast Photo Contributor Christy Kurtz Harmon's gorgeous pics for some wardrobe-envy.
Meet our good friend Danielle and family.....these #digs are one for the books! These clever creatives transformed their Victorian mansion into a major modern display of bouistrous color and coveted design. Danielle has filled the house with wildly impressive art, political winks, and a bit of satire, with a taste-level thats straight-up exalted. Christy Kurtz Harmon photographs the tour.
We're spending some time on the subject of sisterhood here at PS. This week, we jumped over to the adorable Sacramento craftsman that belongs to Olga and her family and spent a little time with her two girls. Click for the sweet tour as we poke around her home and ask about shared spaces and keeping harmony. Welcome to the #Boburbswest, as photographed by guest-photgrapher, Megan Rolleri.
When a mentor-of -sorts and a dear friend tipped us off to her pal Ashley Gleason's stunning home, we couldn't wait to reach out ourselves to learn more. The lifestyle concept-shop proprietor and mother of two has transformed her 1860's Italianate townhouse into a modern masterpiece in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Click for the tour, as Dominic Episcopo photographs the wildly inspiring, down-to-earth decadence.
This woman is everything. It's of the highest delights to be able to step inside her California Victorian flat and feel the poetic and cozy space she has created for herself and Edie. Through thick and thin, Beth illuminates. She is a beacon of curiosity and gratitude (she has been since we met at age 10). Her home resonates this thoughtful, loving luminosity of hers- we'd do just about anything to be there with them right now in the #boburbswest! Click for the tour as shot by Marrisa Rocke.....come on in to the world of Nouveau Nonchalance!
We met Adrienne at our own Beth's shibori workshop - she was wearing a vintage kimono we couldn't ignore. She's a woman's woman- a mamma hen to her college-aged son with a strong sense of self. We loved hearing the muse-y maven talk with us about Motherhood and her uncompromised sense of style. Check out her groovy, historic bungalow in the tree-lined neighborhood of Curtis Park in Sacramento, as shot by Celisse Muller. Imagine Leonard Cohen playing in the background on vinyl.... click for the tour.
This buttery-yellow nursery is loaded with personalization and clever keepsakes. Vintage wicker, catchy prints, and pattern-play accessorize an antique pair of tidy twin beds that will someday soon tuck in a ginger-mopped toddler named Georgia and her brand new baby sister (Clio, born in October). Owner of a creative talent and recruiting company and #Bobuburbseast own social matchmaker of sorts, Dana Siomkos shows us around her gals' sweet space. Photographed by Christy Kurtz Harmon.
Take a step inside Heather and family's clever and creative world in West Orange, NJ. Christy Kurtz Harmon photographs the artfully curious and perfectly offbeat home.
We're excited to bestow a little far-flung house envy with our new friend, Felicty's digs in Bath, Somerset in the UK. The lovely stylist and mother of three (soon-to-be-four!) shows us around her gorgeously curated maisonette. Click below for some English reverie.
It's no surprise California boasts a ripe crop of mid-century modern architecture, but discovering these gems outside of the southern coastal and desert cities is particularly exciting. Our new friend, Elizabeth (who by chance is also close with some of our other pals here), is lucky enough to actually inhabit one in Sacramento. Celisse Muller photographs her streamlined space; one of the niche market homes in the surrounding suburbs of midtown designed by the architect Carter Sparks, and built by the Streng Bros, inspired by the Bay Area Eichler. Click for more of the Uzbekistan-born beauty's stylish home.
There is a bursting melody in artist Sherry Beth Sack's yellow ranch house. Color pops in every corner and in between the mid-century styling, indoor tropical jungle, and her own vibrant paintings. Christy Kurtz Harmon photographs the progressive spirit of the South Orange home, including Sherry's impressive subterranean art studio.
Dressed-up vintage finds, walls festooned in trinkets and tokens, and a basement atelier fill the Victorian home of jewelry designer, Melissa de la Fuente. Click for the tour, as Photographed by Christy Kurtz Harmon.
We love peeking around unexpected corners in our new #DIGS series. This week, we visit the quirky little delta town of Isleton in northern California and meet the fiber artist behind Roxanne Roxanne Designs and her tot, Jimmy. Click through and discover a bit of bohemian romance as we tour their charming, cozy abode. Snapped by Celisse Muller.
For our new #DIGS series, we go beyond the nursery and take a deeper look into the family's home. Here, photographer Celisse Muller takes us inside the spirited, artful loft space of Sacramento It-girl Trisha Rhomberg.

If you're anything like us (and most of our friends), we can't get enough of Eliza Gran baskets. The cheerful bohemian accents are the perfect solve for all our elegant messes- stylishly hiding cluttered magazines, kids toys, potted plants, and other flotsam jetsam. There is brilliance in a multifunctional design. We were thrilled the Venice, California designer herself (and mother of 3!) took a minute to answer #thesamethreequestions.

Our new favorite #digs rest in the quirky Catskills town of Callicoon, NY. After reading about the space in Vogue, we made sure to stop through while on a recent summer road trip and fell in love with Sunny's Callicoon Pop- an impeccable trove of artful findings and rarities tucked deep in the rolling hills where an enchanting river hugs its little town.
We've had serious admiration for proprietor Sunrise Ruffalo ever since her influential Kaviar and Kind shop in Los Angeles pioneered cool, fine jewelry and experiential shopping in the early 2000's. We've adored her unmatched personal style and when we heard she uprooted her family from the busy city-life to the offbeat town of Callicoon- we had to visit.
