Tour a home filled with both art and intellect, as we revisit Maplewood, NJ and meet Joanna and family. She's a lovely illustration of balance- an approachable yet admirable kind of Motherhood (she also runs a graphic design studio with her husband, Peter) in a home that's equally inviting and cozy as it's well-appointed art. We just love the serene, shaker-like minimalism of her furniture mixed with vibrant folk textiles and an impressive art collection procured from friends and peers. Our beloved east coast contributor, Christy Kurtz Harmon shares photos.
Joanna and her family were actually the very first people I met here in town. Her husband and I were reaching for the same midcentury-light fixture at an estate sale and we all struck up conversation. They were so wonderful and I left kicking myself for not being bold enough to ask for her contact info, when weeks later after a obligatory trip to Ikea, there was a fresh baked-loaf and a handwritten welcome note at my doorstep. She single-handedly initiated my love for this town and fueled a curiosity and connection with its new wave of people. We're gracious she and her family let us in to their beautiful house. Scroll for the tour, and see as Joanna eloquently describes "living in a very old house that is ours but not always so, with these things that are ours but also have their own stories... "
